Being an "HP family", my dad bought me an HP 49g+ calculator with RPN. I loved that thing. Going against the grain and doing things differently is very important to me. Here I had to get special permission from school to use this device because it was not the approved crappy TI calculator. Luckily I had a really cool maths teacher (hello Mr. Pieke!) and he made it happen.

I loved RPN and stack-based programming. I created all kinds of small programs in User RPL. On holidays I would be programming stuff in my tent. On hpcalc.org I downloaded all kinds of knowledge bases for e.g. the periodic table and loved reading things from the calculator. The calculator broke down at some point, then I bought a 49g+, but that was stolen from my student room later. I still miss it.

next: 2005 - Dat Narrenschip

previous: 1999 - Reverse engineering the binary format of HP ChemStation

",[
[TSTIL] Social Gravity","/2022/10/social-gravity/
[TSTIL] SnelTrein","/2022/10/sneltrein/",[23,28,33,36,40,43,46,50
"Mapping out Dark Code","/2026/03/mapping-out-dark-code/","2026",false
"The software that I love","/2022/10/the-software-that-i-love/","Series · 36 posts",true
"Navigating the Fog of War: Age of Empires, AI Agents, and the Rise of Dark Code","/2026/05/navigating-fog-of-war-age-of-empires-ai/
"The Future of Programming Systems - four thoughts","/2024/09/the-future-of-programming-systems-four/","2024
"Always Optimize the Feedback Loop","/2024/07/always-optimize-feedback-loop/
""Security Is Our Top Priority" is BS","/2024/07/security-is-our-top-priority-is-bs/
"10x teams","/2025/02/10x-teams/","2025
"Hiring, from the Other Side","/2025/10/hiring-from-other-side/",1792876808996]
